2010 FIFA World Cup – Support Team Australia

Everyone who is an Australian should go and support Team Australia in this year’s FIFA World Cup hosted in South Africa. Australia has a great chance in the current year to make it through its group. Australia has made it into Group D. Other countries in this group are: Germany, Ghana and Serbia.

It is the 19th FIFA World Cup this year. The host nation is South Africa and there has already been a lot of talk about whether or not South Africa is a country fit to host the cup. The decision has already been made and countries from across the world who have qualified will be playing soon. One of these teams is Australia.

Qualification for the cup started all the way back in August 2007. From a field of 204 FIFA national teams, only 32 passed qualification. The number of nations that competed in qualification was similar to that of those competing in the summer Olympic games. Millions of people around the world watch this event live on their TV sets. With the help of the Internet, everyone with Internet access will be able to watch the major cup event.

Australia did pretty well in the previous World Cup hosted in Germany. They got through to the round of 16. The round of 16 was a knockout stage that consisted of 8 games and the loser getting kicked out of the cup. Australia played Italy in this round of 16 and lost with a score of zero to one. It was a very controversial game with lots of chatter about the Italian team taking dives.

Australia didn’t make it into the quarter finals in 2006, hopefully in 2010 they can pull off something amazing and get into the quarter finals. Back in 2006, Italy won the cup in Germany. If Australia had of won its round of 16, the cup would have been won by some other team. Maybe Australia could have reached the finals four years ago.

This year in 2010, the Socceroos coach known as Pim Verbeek has named a squad of 31 people. There are a few familiar faces such as Marco Bresciano, Tim Cahill, Harry Kewell and Mark Schwarzer. The Socceroos is what the Australian team is called. Tim Cahill played magnificently in the previous cup.

Teams like Australia are sporting new soccer jerseys. Soccer jerseys have been made by famous manufacturers such as Adidas and Nike. They look really nice and people love to sport them while watching their favourite team play. Jerseys are a great way to support your nation in this years major sporting event.

As mentioned previously, Australia are in Group D and will play against Germany, Ghana and Serbia. The first match the Socceroos will play is against Germany. The match will be played on the 13th of June 2010. Six days later it will play against Ghana on the 19th. With only a 3 day break it will then play against Serbia on the 23rd.

Australia has a great chance to progress through this tough group. Two teams make it through every group and Germany seems very sure of getting through Group D. Germany was the host nation in the previous cup and will be looking to play just as well as it did last time. Germany ended up third which was a extremely good effort.

In conclusion, all Australians should get behind the Socceroos and wish them all the best for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Australia has a great chance to do better than it did back in Germany 4 years ago. Sport your own Socceroos soccer jersey and support the Aussies in what will be a wonderful soccer cup event.
