Have you ever wondered how easy it is to wind up Leeds United and their fans even more? Please allow me to share with you the latest snippet of transfer speculation coming out of Hull City Football Club. Ah yes, the power of the internet and publication. Don’t you just love it?
This would be funny if it was in fact deemed to be true. Indeed, at this stage it hasn’t been confirmed or denied as such by any party, so we can take the latest rumour being punted around national media circles with some genuine cause for debate. Could the Tigers really be about to rub yet more salt into an already gaping Leeds United wound?
Following Hull City Football Club’s stellar 2-2 draw with the Lillywhites at Elland Road on Tuesday evening – secured with just 10 men by the way – Leeds United were left far from happy with Hull City skipper Ian Ashbee. Well, that and the fact Bradley Johnson’s comedy own goal gifted the Tigers a point for our injury ravaged and numerically depleted side, thus costing the home team two more valuable points. Sweet…
But as stated above, adding more fuel to an already raging fire in the Leeds camp was City legend Ian Ashbee for an alleged elbow planted square in Luciano Becchio’s face. Apoplectic at the apparent actions of the Tigers’ no.4, Leeds United lodged a formal complaint with Football League, because no action had been taken by the match referee Kevin Friend at the time, leaving Becchio requiring treatment.
That news has angered Leeds United who have retaliated to the official response by posting video footage and a picture of Becchio’s black eye on their official website. But surely, this can only be viewed as frustration by the West Yorkshire side, after the referee decided no further retrospective action would need to be taken – thus rendering the Lillywhites without a case.
Yet, the funniest thing of all is; Hull City Football Club are set to provoke the West Yorkshire club further with their own latest actions. In what would be seen as a real poke in the eye, Nigel Pearson is reportedly contemplating a swoop for the Argentine striker during the January transfer window. That move to take Leeds United’s star striker away from Elland Road, would severely weaken their rivals striking options – particularly as Jermaine Beckford moved to Everton in the summer. Nice one Pearson!
